New working practices will cut out duplication and delay and allow us to provide a more responsive and secure service.
SIS provides comprehensive professional indemnity insurance with the security, value and service required by surgeons in both the NHS and independent sector. Because the SIS Board of Directors comprises a majority of practicing clinicians, it is best placed to anticipate and respond to the changing indemnity needs of its members.
The Board of Directors is responsible for governance of the scheme and its future development. This year, the Board decided to appoint new brokers and underwriters with effect from 25th September 2014 to secure further improvements to SIS membership benefits and services.
New SIS underwriters
Our new underwriters are W. R. Berkley, a leading insurance company with a specialist medical professional indemnity division based in London. W. R. Berkley have assets of US$22.5 billion and their financial strength is rated as: A+ by Standard and Poors and A Excellent by A M Best
Through W. R. Berkley we have introduced improved membership benefits, streamlined cases handling and a more detailed underwriting model, allowing subscriptions to better reflect risk and so provide better value for money. For existing members transfer to the new underwriters will be seamless at your next renewal and you can rest assured that there will be no break in your cover.
Sharon Brennan from W. R. Berkeley said:

SIS has appointed Lucas Fettes and Partners (LFP), a specialist professional indemnity Lloyd’s broker, who will be working closely with SIS to secure the best membership benefits and terms for members. LFP will also help with regulatory compliance and other technical aspects of the SIS insurance policy,
